Computer Software and Hardware Installation

The advancing of computers and the related technologies, has brought vast changes in the software and hardware of the computer. The computer software constitutes the programs that run in it, while the hardware constitutes the monitor, keyboard and all the peripheral devices that are connected to it.

Computer Software Installation

The operating system of your computer is an important factor to be considered when you install any software. It is the program that is contrived to run the software on your computer, and is responsible for managing the software and hardware. Before you install a software, the first important step is to check the configuration of your computer, and the system requirements of the software. The configuration of your computer must match the requirements of the software to be installed. Sometimes, the software to be installed is compressed in a .RAR or .ZIP file. In these cases, before you install, you have to uncompress all the installation files and folders. To uncompress the files and folders, ensure that you have a decompression software application installed on your computer.

Every computer software comes with a 'Read me' file. This 'Read me' file contains all the instructions that are required for installation. Sometimes, when you install a software, it may ask you to install another program that is required for the proper execution of the software. The computer may even prompt you to install the supporting software after you complete the installation. When you install any software program, it is advisable to close all other programs and utilities. Some antivirus software applications may require you to turn off the firewall and disable the antivirus in order to install the software. When installing software applications related to computer networking or web browsing, it is recommended that you disable the antivirus and the firewall. Finally, to complete the installation, restart your system.

Computer Hardware Installation

With advancing technology, the computer peripherals are upgraded often. To install them, unplug all the power cords of your computer that are connected to the mains, before connecting the hardware. The hardware may include a CD that contains the software that supports the new hardware. Install this software before you connect the hardware to the computer, which must be restarted after a CD installation is complete. There are two different types of computer hardware. They are as follows:

External Hardware
The external hardware involves all the peripherals that are connected to the desktop computer externally, via various ports. These are USB, serial and parallel port, firewire, bluetooth, PS/2 and PC card. The external hardware installation can be done by a normal user, even without much knowledge of computers. The hardware is connected to the computer after switching it off.

Internal Hardware

The internal hardware is a bit complicated and requires some basic knowledge about the computer internals. The CPU cabinet is opened by removing the side panels of the cabinet. Identify the slot in which you have to plug your hardware. Plug in the hardware that is to be installed and ensure that it has fit properly into its slot. The side panel and the screws are replaced into their original places and all the wires are connected to their respective slots. The power cord can then be plugged into the mains and the computer can be switched on.

The computer software and hardware installation is very easy with some basic knowledge about computers. If some installation is complicated, you may ask a professional to install or help you with it.

How to Disable Overclocking

You tried out overclocking to make your processor go that extra mile, but it didn't work out. Now you want to know how to restore things back to normal. That's what I am going to help you with, in this article. Read to know all about disabling overclocking.

The need to experiment and go beyond what is possible, is an inherent human tendency. Since the first personal computers were manufactured, people have experimented with hardware to make it go beyond its basic capabilities by overclocking the CPU. Gamers and people who want that extra bit more from their processor, implement overclocking to derive better performance. However, unless you actually know CPU overclocking and take necessary precautions, the experimentation may end up with drastic consequences ranging from a system crash to a fried CPU. If you are one of those, for whom it didn't work out, through this Buzzle article, I am going to guide you through the procedure to turn off overclocking and undo changes made to the system settings to restore normal functionality.

One thing that a lot of gamers need to know is that no piece of hardware is overclocked by default. A computer processor or video card that you may have installed on your computer, will operate at its base specifications. So those of you who think their hardware is overclocked and needs disabling are mistaken. Your hardware is probably having compatibility issues or driver issues that you need to look into.

About Overclocking

Overclocking is increasing the base operating frequency of the processor by modifying the front-side bus (FSB) frequency. Earlier it was possible to change the clocking frequency by modifying the internal multiplier settings, but in most modern processors it is locked. Ergo, modifying the FSB frequency is the only way of overclocking a CPU. To do that, along with the FSB frequency, the voltage settings of the motherboard also need to be modified and tuned. Since the heat output of the processor rises with increased clocking frequency, you also need to put in a cooling system to prevent overheating.

How to Undo Overclocking?

You may have tried overclocking your CPU and it may not have worked out for you. Either you are seeing no improvement in performance or you find your system crashing. In either case, it's best to nullify the effects of overclocking by changing settings back to normal.

How do you go about it? Firstly you will have to enter the CMOS and BIOS settings of the system and reverse all the voltage settings of the motherboard back to normal. You could also do this by choosing the 'Restore Fail Safe Defaults' option. Refer to the processor and motherboard specifications provided online to check for exact base voltage and frequency settings. Make changes accordingly. Some systems like Alienware machines, come with a default feature in BIOS, where processor overclocking can be directly disabled. In case you have such a system, you can use the feature to disable overclocking. Disable all CPU core control settings in BIOS.

Also change the FSB frequency setting to base value. Reverse every setting that you changed during overclocking, back to what it was before. Save changes and exit setup. You may remove all the extra cooling equipment you put up to prevent overheating. Once all these changes have been made, boot up your computer again to find things falling back to normalcy.

To sum it all up, to undo overclocking, you need to reverse all the changes made to system settings. Unless any serious hardware damage has been inflicted, this should restore functionality. With the modern line of Intel and AMD processors running at clocking frequencies that exceed 3 GHz, there is really no need to overclock computer processors and video cards anymore. Intel has developed 'Turbo Boost' technology, which can power processors beyond their base clocking frequencies on demand. It is like automated overclocking built into the processor! Ergo, I recommend that a processor upgrade to the high-end line of AMD or Intel processors is a better alternative than actually overclocking your existing system!

How to Overclock a CPU

If you are looking for tips on overclocking a CPU and taking it beyond its specified clocking frequency, this article will be an insightful read.

Every machine needs tuning and modifications, if it has to go beyond its current performance levels. Overclocking your CPU is a similar procedure, which can boost its performance to never before attained levels. If this procedure is executed without a proper study of all the complexities involved, you may end up destroying the chip and the computer motherboard entirely. Just like tuning a motorcycle or car engine to surpass its inherent 'safe' performance limit is dangerous, so is overclocking. Ergo, it's advised that you carry out this procedure on old machines and components first, till you get a hang of it.

Basics and Preparation

A lot of users tend to be unaware of the fact that a computer processor's specified maximum clocking frequency can actually be overridden to derive greater computing performance. This is achieved through BIOS level modifications in CPU core voltage, processor internal multiplier, and computer memory bus frequency, which leads to the attainment of a greater clocking frequency. While the average user may not be interested or may not even benefit from this procedure, it is an interesting technique to learn, if you want to understand how a computer really works at the base level. The basic idea can be summarized with the following equation:

Computer Processor Clocking Frequency = (Internal Multiplier) x (FSB frequency)

Here, the clocking frequency is the operating frequency of the processor, which is usually specified in Gigahertz (GHz), internal multiplier is a preset value of the processor (a ratio of the internal clocking frequency with the external clock frequency), and front side bus (FSB) frequency is the operating frequency of the bus channel that transmits data between the computer memory and the processor. For example, a CPU with an FSB frequency of 200 MHz and an internal multiplier of 15x will have a clocking frequency of 15 x 200 MHz = 3 GHz.

To increase the clocking frequency of the CPU and raise it beyond its set limits, either the internal multiplier, or the FSB frequency needs to be increased. Most chips have a preset internal multiplier, which cannot be changed. The only feature that can be modified is the FSB frequency, accompanied with an increase in operating voltages of the motherboard.

As a result of greater core voltage being fed in, the heat output of a processor increases, which necessitates that a cooling mechanism, along with extra heat sinks be fitted on the computer motherboard. To provide greater voltage to computer hardware components, it's necessary that you install a SMPS with a higher power output.

Besides devising a method for cooling the computer motherboard and installing a higher wattage SMPS, you will have to first check whether it's possible to overclock your motherboard beyond its set limits. You need to check out which computer processor is installed on it and what are its voltage and clocking frequency values. Depending on what kind of processor you use (Intel or AMD), the strategy will vary. Conduct processor-specific research and check if your motherboard BIOS supports it. Most OEM motherboards, supplied by Intel, don't allow it.

To check if the motherboard supports overclocking, open the BIOS settings and look for 'Voltage and Frequency Settings' of the CPU. If it is allowed, you will have access to modify these settings. If they are not present, then the motherboard doesn't allow it.

Overclocking Through BIOS or Hardware Manipulation

The first step is setting up extra heat sinks and a cooling mechanism in the motherboard. Check out sites on the Internet which can guide you in this regard. Also install a more powerful SMPS which can supply greater power output.

Conduct a benchmark and stress test of the CPU, using software programs designed for the purpose, before you begin overclocking. There are two ways in which, you can change the clocking frequency. It is either through BIOS or through the hardware.

For hardware-level manipulation, refer to your motherboard manual and locate the jumpers used for clocking speed selection and resetting the BIOS to default settings. Using the information provided in the manual, change the jumper positions to get a desired CPU clocking frequency and internal multiplier value. Make the changes and reboot the computer to see if the system is working stably. Conduct benchmark tests to monitor performance enhancement. Keep modifying the FSB frequency and internal multiplier value, using jumper settings, till you get a stably-running high-performance system.

The second technique is based on manipulation of BIOS settings, to change FSB frequency and internal multiplier, along with a fractional increase in voltage values provided to the system.

Keep making incremental changes in these parameters and rebooting the system to run stress tests and gauge performance. In case the system overheats and shuts down, use the BIOS reset jumper to restore to default settings. Keep checking the CPU health status and if its temperature rises close to 70° Celsius, it is time that you stop increasing the voltage and settle for the last bootable configuration. This method is pretty much trial and error and there is no way of knowing which voltage and frequency combination will provide you with a high-performance system. Make sure that you research the whole thing thoroughly before you go ahead.

You can derive a marginal increase in performance of your PC and take it to the limits of its abilities by overclocking it. This can be extremely helpful in case of CPU-intensive applications like large simulations and video editing. However, with modern Intel core i3, i5, and i7 line of processors, there is inbuilt Turbo Boost technology which can raise the clocking frequency beyond the base frequency, when need be.

As discussed before, this technique is not a perfect science. Rather, it's a trial-and-error procedure which takes a lot of time and patience to get right. Make sure that you have studied the procedure thoroughly and thought about all the things that could go wrong, before going ahead.

Easy Ways to Speed up Your Computer

Computer slow like a turtle? Read this article where we dish out some easy ways to speed up your computer in the nick of time...

Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Dude, I just need to check my Facebook account once. As it is I hardly get one or two notifications, and this sloth of a PC? Takes forever to load just a single damn page. I'm so not repairing you, Mister!' Ah, it's a common occurrence. This struggle between me and my computer, slow like a snail, that I end up banging my head against the wall. So, what do you do in that case? Let your computer go to the dogs? Or do something about its speed? Obviously, the latter. And hey! There's no need to call a computer technician home to increase the speed of your computer, when there's a lot you can do yourself. So, here's putting forth some extremely easy ways in which you can speed up your PC, for times when your system is slow all of a sudden.

6 Easy Ways to Speed Up Your Computer

Windows Registry Repair
90 percent of the speed problems in a computer are a result of windows registry errors. Your windows registry has a track record of all the software in your PC. Well, with frequent downloading, we tend to pitch in many unwanted software entries, thus, slowing our PC. However, you could increase the performance of your computer by bringing into use a registry cleaning program, that can be fetched from the Internet itself. If you run the program, and fix the errors, it will delete all the unwanted entries that could harm the speed of your computer system.
Virus Detected
Downloading too much stuff lately, eh? You need to check on malware and spyware. Well, many a time, it happens that when you download files from the Internet, you happen to download virus along with it, unknowingly of course. In this case, one of the biggest reasons for your computer to slow down must be a whole lot of virus in your computer's brain. It's time to run an anti-virus check, and delete all the virus. Get the latest version of a good anti-virus software, and kick all the malware out of your PC!
It Needs Some Space
Hmm, now, when you're in a habit of downloading stuff from the Internet, it's natural for you to store it in all the hard drives. What's more, if you're a hardcore gaming freak, every game takes up a GB of space. On the other hand, movies take up 700 MB each. Dude, let it breathe, will you? Now, think of your computer as a fat lady. The more you feed her, the more weight she puts on, and the more difficult would it be for her to walk. Getting? Delete all software programs, games, and entertainment media files that are just lying in your PC, and you no more use them. It will let your PC take some breaths of respite, so that it can work with great speed.

Eradicate Temp Files
Your cache memory has a lot of unwanted stuff stored. It's time you delete all temporary files, cookies, and history of the websites you browsed, which unnecessarily take a lot of space in your computer, thereby, slowing it. To delete temporary files, go to the Start Menu, select Run, and type (%temp%), which will show you all the temporary files you can select and delete.

Enhance Your RAM
Yeah, the light of your hard drive may be flickering crazily, but that really doesn't mean you rush to the computer store with your CPU in hand, and wait for the technician to speed up your computer. Before you do it, you just need to know that improving your Random Access Memory seems to be the most viable option, considering the fact that more the memory in your PC, better the speed. Check out the existing RAM in your PC with the help of System Information, and decide how much more RAM you require. The more the RAM you get, the better will be the speed of your PC.

Defragment It
Take a fantastic example of your wardrobe. If you're in a habit of piling clothes, irrespective of what they are, into the wardrobe, chances are, you'll take hours to find out that one pair of jeans you wore five months ago. However, if you sectioned your wardrobe into jeans, Ts, shirts, etc., finding that jeans would've been a matter of seconds. Well, that's how a computer's storage system is. Your computer comprises thousands of sections in which data is stored. If your computer is too slow, chances are, the data doesn't exist in the respective folders. What's more, you need to carry out the process of defragmentation in order to create proper sections of data, so that the disk head easily recognizes it. Over a period of time, data storage becomes scattered with new data piled over. Defragmentation helps in minimizing the time of data retrieval, thus, enhancing the computer speed.

Quickies to Make Your Computer Faster

Some quickies presented below might come handy in making your computer run faster. Take a look:
  1. Try compressing big files that have taken a lot of space in your computer. This will create more space, and hence, will contribute to increasing the speed of your PC.
  2. One of the best ways to enhance PC speed is to restore your system to an earlier time when it was working fine. This can be done by using System Restore. Once you create a definite system restore point, you will never fear losing your important data.
  3. Does your computer system automatically start up some applications while starting? If it does, it's time you disable them so that your PC takes less time to start. This can be done by typing command MSCONFIG in Run.
  4. Use only one Internet browser, as multiple browsers slow the performance of your computer. Truth be told, there isn't a browser better than the Google Chrome. Make a habit of using it to browse the Internet.
There are a hundreds of other ways, the easiest of which have been pitched in here, in this write-up. The next time your computer calls 'Time Out!', you know what to do before calling for technical support. However, if none of the above methods do the trick for you, it's better to call a hardware engineer and let him sort out the issue. We might be knowing everything about our computer, but sometimes, it's better to hand a tricky computer system to a professional, rather than goofing up yourself. Isn't it?

How To Clone A Hard Drive, An Alternative To Removing Computer Viruses, Adware, Spyware, And Malware

In this article before getting started, I would like to first clarify the above terms, Computer Viruses, Adware, Spyware, and Malware. Then I would like to share my experience and express my opinion as to why I gave up trying to eradicate them from my system(s).

In My Humble Opinion and From My Experience I feel That:

• 1. Removing them is a complete and utter waste of time and effort even if you were to try and remove these yourself and,
• 2. Why I feel it is a complete rip-off and waste of your money paying ANYONE to remove them for you.

First Off, What Is This Stuff Anyway:

As a new user and someone who might have just purchased their first computer you may or may not be familiar with these terms, Computer Viruses, Adware, Spyware, or Malware. I would like to go over these in order to clarify what each of these are and why they are Soooooo Evil!, (with the acception of honest Adware).

Computer Viruses:

Referenced by The Wiki - and not quoted: A computer virus is a destructive (Computer program or script) that has the ability to replicate and enable itself to pass its virus, (the “Malicious” computer program or script), along to other computers.
(There is always an Evil and destructive intention associated with it!). A computer virus is similar to a biological virus that can destroy your system’s hard drive. It does this by creating and repeating destructive files, moving files, or even deleting them. A Virus can consume most of, if not all of your computer’s memory bringing your computer to a grinding halt. In a nutshell, it is a bad thing to get similar to getting a biological virus.
Though, this is not the focus of my article, your chances of getting a virus can be greatly reduced by installing a good, reputable Anti-Virus program of your choosing and keeping it updated regularly.

Adware:

Adware consists of free software that is supported by advertisements.“You get what you pay for”, especially in the case of Adware. Adware may consist of a toolbar that works along side your web browser or may consist of Computer games or Free utilities which are a biggy as well. These all may be free to use but the trade off for them being free is subjecting you to watching their ads while these programs or utilities are open and in use. They often times will facilitate you, the user, to engage in an interactive experience by encouraging you to click on something that will bring you to their website for some product purchase. Most “Honest Adware”, annoying at the very least, is safe, but “Dishonest Adware” can contain Spyware, which brings us to this next term shortly. My advice is if you are going to participate in downloading any Adware programs or utilities, first do a Google search and look for reviews that are specific to the program or utility that you want to download. Additionally, be sure to reveiw their Privacy policy as well as insuring they are from a reputable company.

Spyware:

Free programs and utilities can also include Spyware. Once installed, Spyware gathers Personal information on an individual user from their hard drive, the websites you may visit, or even keystrokes from your keyboard when you type. (personally, I think this last one is a little far fetched, but nonetheless please be ware!) Furthermore, these Spyware programs are then capable of passing on your Personal information to other computers across the Internet. So a word of caution here, before downloading anything, especially if it is “Free”, make sure you, again, do a Google search to insure it is a safe piece of software from a reputable company as well as reading their Privacy agreement.

Malware:

Malware is short for malicious software and consists of any destructive programming, (code, scripts, active content, and other software), designed to either slow down or destroy your system’s functionality. Typically, Viruses, Spyware, and dishonest Adware qualify for these forms of Malware. Other forms of malware consist of computer worms, Trojan horses, scareware, crimeware, most rootkits, and other malicious and unwanted software or programs which I won’t get into at this time. The law defines malware as a computer contaminant, in the U.S., states of California and West Virginia, as well as other states in the country. Now that you may have some understanding of the above terms, one hopefully can now see how so very destructive these can be to your computer, with the acception of “Honest Adware”.

With All Being Said, Doesn’t This Now Sound A Bit Strange As Well As Kind Of A Weird Subject?

An Alternative To Removing Computer Viruses, Adware, Spyware, and Malware:
We now know from reading about these malices how destructive they can be, so why wouldn’t we want to remove them from our system once detected?
For those of us who have been in the computing world for a while and own one or more systems, we are very familiar with them. We know how devastating it is to get any of these and know how any one of them can destroy our hard drives or at the very least impede the efficiency and functionality of our system(s) as well as degrade our data.
So, why would I not want to remove these malices? Why would I even suggest an alternative to removing these?
The reason is, and STRICTLY my opinion based on my many experiences as a person who has been building their own workstations since 2001, a complete and utter waste of time, effort, and money. What?... read on...

A Waste of Time and Effort:

I too in the past have contracted Viruses, Dishonest Adware, Spyware, and/or any of the other Malwares mentioned in this article. I have made a concerted effort to remove them by performing a very lengthy, detailed process that I won’t go into here. I am also someone who takes great pride in building, trouble shooting and maintaining his own workstations as well as helping others to maintain their's. Furthermore, I feel I am pretty Tech Savvy when it comes to this. Even though I was successful in removing any of these, they still did their damage long before I was even able to eradicate them. Furthermore, this was an extremely time consuming and frustrating process and in my opinion a waste of time and effort.

A Waste of Money To Remove Them:

So lets say you don’t want to try and remove them yourself, and instead, decide to pay a professional to remove any of these malices. You can expect to pay a hefty fee of $75.00 on the low end, all the way up to $200.00 on the highest end, which I have ALWAYS felt was not only a rip-off but a complete waste of money. I know because I used to be an IT repair technician for a large electronics firm who had their own in-house computer repair department and people came in all the time for some kind of Malware removal. I always felt what the firm was charging a customer for this removal was not only outrageous but a complete rip-off because it only served as a band aid that would re-enable their system for a short period of time until they contracted another Malware. As a result, I often times dissuaded the customer from spending their hard earned money on this service.

Cloning Your Hard Drive, A Viable Alternative To Malware Removal:

A viable alternative to removing any of the above Malwares is to learn how to Clone Your Hard Drive. By cloning your hard drive, in less time than it would take you to remove the Malware, even if you knew how to, you could have a new, spare, cloned drive or two or more, on the shelf at any given moment that you could swap out for your infected drive. I can’t tell you how many times this has saved my bacon! Furthermore, sometimes we don’t think prior to installing a new application, or utility and find that it simply is not compatible with our system. I admit, I have been guilty of this as well and paid the price. When this happened, I simply removed the problem drive, and later WIPING it, (which I will get into in a later tutorial), and replacing it with my clone. The result, I was up and running in a matter of minutes.
If you are interested in finding out more about "How to clone a hard drive", I have prepared a detailed tutorial with large, easy to follow screen shots.
I hope the above information has been beneficial in not only helping you to clarify some of the different Malwares out there but has also shown you how to help prevent them from destroying your computer system. Additionally, I hope I have offered you a viable alternative to spending your valuable time and hard earned money trying to remove them.

How to Prevent Computer Virus Attack

How to Prevent Computer Virus Attack - computer is an important tool for us as search for information on the Internet, but over time our computer virus attack causing bad impact.

Virus is a malicious program that created intentionally by one who intends to take, view, modify, and even destroy data that could harm users in the attack. Usually the virus even appear on the OS (Operating System) Windows, because Windows has a security cavity width. This further adds to the interest a few people to make a virus that is used to undermine the windows through the lack of security.

How to prevent and avoid your computer from virus attacks:

1. Installing anti-virus and update it periodically, over the months because the virus will be growing and diverse.
2. Computer scanning routine every day to minimize the entry of virus on your computer.
3. If the computer you're connected to the internet, please turn on the firewall for your computer. The firewall itself is useful to counteract all the malicious files that can be entered on your computer especially via the internet.
4. Do not carelessly open suspicious files because the files may carry virus that will attack your computer. To minimize and avoid doing scanning on the file.
5. Always scanning new files downloaded from the internet.
6. Turn off Automatic Autorun CD
How to open Regedit, select HKEY_CURRENT _USER --Software --Microsoft --Windows--CurrentVersion --Policies --Explorer.
